Default Cannot Delete Directories

Hi All.

Ok, here is what is happening:

I logged into my server root folder. I had done a website for a client in a sub folder of my site.
Ex. www.mydomain.com/client/

In that "Client" folder I have 2 sub folders - (images & includes)

When I tried to delete the "Client" folder it deleted all of the files in all the folders but wouldn't delete the folders/sub folders themselves. Just left me with a directory with 2 empty sub folders.

I was able to delete the sub folders first then the main directory after that. So I was able to delete the directory in the end, just took me a minute longer. I would really like to be able to delete everything by just deleting the main directory/folder.

I searched the forums for the answer but found nothing. I think I remember something about leaving empty directories in the options somewhere, but I cannot find anything that will let me delete an entire directory with subfolders and files.

My site is on an NT4 server running IIS4. The server is setup well, but the software is old, I Know. But this is the only problem that I have to report.

Can someone please clue me in on how to be able to delete a folder/directory that has files and sub folders in it by just deleting the main directory.

Thanks!

FlashFXP is the Best!

Hello LBeansy,

What do you have set under Options > Preferences > Advanced, for the option "Only delete top-level FTP folders"?

In the status window, does it log any error messages or show any successful or failed attempts to delete those folders?

I am not immediately familiar with the cause of this error, so I welcome anyone else to post if they know the answer.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do not have this feature enabled ----->Unchecked

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[18:46:47] [R] List Complete: 2 KB in 0.61 seconds (4.6 KB/s)
[18:46:47] Deleted 0 Folders and 47 Files totaling 219 KB in 7.46 seconds.

This is the end result of trying to delete another directory with one subfolder named images.

All the web pages and images were deleted out of the directories but the 2 folders still remain.

Thanks

-Lance

EDIT -

I just tried to delete this directory that had the empty subfolder in it and it worked.

Seems like there is a setting that I am missing that won't let me delete empty directories automatically.

Thanks Again

I doubt you have the ftp session from your original attempt but to determine if there was a problem you needed to look in the status and see if FlashFXP sent the commands to delete the folders. More than likely the ftp server denied the attempt for whatever reason.

There are no other settings to delete folders.

I tried it again and watched the status window.

It says that all commands were succeessful. But at the very end it states that 0 folders were deleted.

Maybe there is a cacheing problem.

What is the best way to capture the status information?

Thanks

In this case could be a caching problem, when you originally discovered this problem did you create the folders during the same ftp session?

You can completely clear the FlashFXP cache via the Directory menu > Flush directory cache

Right click on the status window and select save to file.

Thanks Bigstar

No, these directories have been on the server for a while.

I tried the same thing on a different server and had no problem.

I think what is happening is that on my server, after delete, the folders are still there in the cache.

I will try one more time and capture the status log.

Should I post the entire log on the forum?

Thanks
