Hidden Shares on Server

I have got a hidden shared volume ( \\servername\hidden$ )on a server. When I try to transnfer files from an ftp to it some files files will not go and also if i set the hidden share up as the default location and double click to open it takes me back to the server base ( \\servername ) that shows the other shares instead of opening the folder.
