How much would you pay for a Linux Port?
Hi
I've read somewhere in the forum, that porting FlashFXP to linux wouldn't worth . So what i want to know is, if there would be enough linux user in here, who would pay enough, that bigstart looks again in kylix and maybe ports Flash to Linux! Because all the solutions with Wine and WineX don't work well. With WineX, it's working good, but SSL isn't and in Wine, SSL is working, but the rest isn't that well.
So plz, all the linux user, get your ass in here

Hi,
i looked into Kylix so far and have to tell you, it's much effort to convert a program which doesn't use the CLX-library to linux. I assume bigstar used the VCL-part of delphi..
Besides that, i'd pay up to 10$ for a stable working linux port of FlashFXP. It's a nice idea, and one of the tools i really miss on linux. (pftp is very nice and opensource thought..)

I would definitely pay for another license to run FlashFXP
on my linux box. I love this program, and have tried using wine and codeweaver's crossover plugin to use FlashFXP, but it's just not the same.

I wouldn't. I have FlashFXP and it runs well under Windows. For Linux there are nice alternatives such the fine pftp-mew (curses-based and very effective).

as for viruses & co, i never had one even though i have no antivirus and never had, cause in 99% users are responsible themselves for getting one by opening attachments and stuff,

Go to the first link that i posted and find the paragraph called '[3] Better patch management would not have solved this'.
Of course there're viruses that affect Linux and recently one famous virii coder made the first virus that infect 64bit executables, but all of us will agree that Windows is (by far and since years) the worst O.S on security-related questions, and no, i don't accept that's the worst because it's the most spread O.S on the world, this is the typical Microsoft excuse (in my humble opinion): code fast, reach release timelines and left open big security holes ...
