Default connection issues

OK, I am new to FlashFXP and I am having some proplems. First, I am behind a firewall (linksys router). I am using Version 2.0 RC2 Build 862. On one particular site I connect to I get

Already loged in, went in one level and could see the directory THEN...

227 Entering Passive Mode (xx,xx,xx,xxx,4,169).
LIST -al
150 Data connection accepted from xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx; transfer starting.
226 Transfer ok
CDUP
250 CWD command successful. "/C:/XXXXXXX/Kids Games" is current directory.
PWD
257 "/C:/xxxxxxx/Kids Games" is current directory.
PASV
227 Entering Passive Mode (xx,xx,xx,xxx,192,12).
Data Socket Error: Connection timed out

I have added the "XX". As you can see, I get several levels into the structure, and have sucessfully negotiated in passive mode until something happens. This can occur at the initial login or anywhere else during the session.

I have tried passive, port and everything else I could think of. Do I need to forward any ports on the router to make this work? Help would be appreciated.

Go to Preferences -> Proxy / Firewall / Ident -> Bind to External IP -> Insert your external IP

That's only required for PORT (non-passive mode connections) also linksys supports NAT so unless the ftp server is on a port other than port 21 this is unnessary. Also telling it to bind to an external IP may not be enough, depending on your network/router setup you may also need to configure a range of forwarding ports.

If passive mode is failing the problem is on the server side. Passive mode connections connect to the ftp server. Whereas with PORT (active mode) the ftp server connects to you.

For the "bind to external IP, would that be my IP as assigned by my ISP or the IP I am connecting to.
The server IS on a port other than 21

Thanks

It would be the IP assigned to you by your ISP.

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried to bind to external port with no effect, even tried to bind to the port assigned by my router...no good.
I am running a server here and have forwarded a range of ports on the router to this computer. Tried to limit the port ranges to those I have forwarded to no affect.
The server I am trying to connect to is a very large private server with a lot of users....dont think the problem is on there end.

Any more things to try or should is there some other client software that might be better (or easier) to set up?

Thanks again
