Read bigstar's statement on this issue. FlashFXP does *NOT* call home with information. All it does is check for new versions with the 'Help' -> 'Check for newer version' feature and verify the registration. No private information is sent with that.

This is a rumor.. Quite an amusing one at that.
People are using pirated copies of FlashFXP at an alarming rate. This has got to stop.
When checking for a new version if we determine the key being used has been pirated we may point the user to one of several web addresses.
This is an interesting url http://www.bsa.org/usa/freetools/con...andlaw_c.phtml below is a quote from it.
Quote:
What Are the Penalties for Pirating Software?
Software theft is a serious matter. If you or your company is caught copying software, you may be held liable under both civil and criminal law.
If the copyright owner brings a civil action against you, the owner can seek to stop you from using its software immediately and can also request monetary damages. The copyright owner may then choose between actual damages, which includes the amount it has lost because of your infringement as well as any profits attributable to the infringement, and statutory damages, which can be as much as $150,000 for each program copied. In addition, the government can criminally prosecute you for copyright infringement. If convicted, you can be fined up to $250,000, or sentenced to jail for up to five years, or both.
Apart from legal consequences, using copied or counterfeit software also means:
Greater exposure to software viruses, corrupt disks, or otherwise defective software
Inadequate or no documentation. No warranties
Lack of technical product support available to properly licensed users
Ineligibility for software upgrades offered to properly licensed users

i heard FlashFXP scanned the users computer for emails and registred the users email on several gay sex sites for free daily inbox emails as a punishment if a invalid serial was detected.
is this true?
it only puts your browser to that url? what else does it do?
heard people trying to crack FlashFXP got files deleted from their computers.

For the record, FlashFXP does not scan your registry, your system or anything of that nature. FlashFXP doesn't send emails. We would never spam you or anyone else. Spam is a disease that needs to be cured.
FlashFXP does what it was designed to do and that's to provide the user with a complete and fully functional FTP/FXP client, it also offers a method of checking for a new version. FlashFXP does nothing else outside the scope of what I mentioned above.
We hate piracy, FlashFXP is our source of income, however when it comes to piracy are actions are fair, just, and reasonable. We never invade your privacy or break your trust. All of these rumors that say otherwise are false. It's miss-information designed to hurt our business.
Of course all of these rumors specifically apply to cracked copies of FlashFXP, a cracker can do anything, There's no telling what has been done and those of you NOT using a cracked copy have nothing to worry about.
