Default Microsoft Windows Vista - FlashFXP can not browse folders

I'm currently beta testing products for the Microsoft Windows Vista Beta 1 published by Microsoft.

At this moment i'am testing FlashFXP 3.2.0 build 1080 on this beta OS. ( Evaluation Version of FlashFXP )

I came to the point that FlashFXP where not able to browse trough the folders to upload/download files. When selecting a folder, this causes the hole FlashFXP to hang, and the OS will fire the helper to locate the problems.

See the screenshots below for more details.

If you need more information, i can provide these by mail ( adres is in my forum account profile , or by this forum ).

With kind regards,

Erwin Wouterson

Well, it's the first Beta (since the LongHorn renaming) of a Microsoft O.S, what do you expect? .

Well this issue is probably not only a problem of the OS but FlashFXP is not handeling the folders correct i guess. Other FTP clients with a file browser look & feel does not have this problems.

To be more clear. FlashFXP gives a list of folders, without names, when you double-click on one of them, it hangs.

Screenshots of the procedure:

Select one of the drives available using drop down

Selected drive (E:\) and it's contents
(here you can see what i mean with empty folder names)

Selecting an empty folder name, When opening the folder by double clicking it hangs. ( open folder ) ( CTRL + O ) will fire the OS File browser which works fine.

Uhm ... yes, it could be a FlashFXP problem, but in order to check it better, could you reproduce it on Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Windows 2003?.

If it only happens on Windows Vista then i'll wait until final version of Vista, or at least RC1-RC2.

Just my opinion.

P.D: Just remember the whole bunch of programs that stopped working or malfunctioning with XP SP2.

Same issue here. Also, going to Options -> Preferences causes the application to bring up some "An error has occured, send a bug report" dialog (appears to be a FlashFXP one and not the normal Microsoft one).

I realize that Vista is in beta, however, I have found very few applications that don't work so far (I have actually found the OS to be surprisingly fast and usable, if a bit unpolished). But, I guess I'll have to find a different FTP client to use until either iniCom or Microsoft does something to fix this. :-P

[Edit] I've filed an Application Comptibility bug report on this with Microsoft, however, if the FlashFXP folks get access to the Vista beta, they might want to take a look at this too, I guess.

It may be useful to provide information on whether you are using the 32bit or 64bit beta of Windows Vista, and which filesystem(s) are being used with it.

Still preparing my other box for installation and testing of the vista beta so unable to provide any insight myself at this time.

32-bit, using NTFS. I'll have a 64-bit test box up before long.
(I think Vista will only install on NTFS, but can still read FAT32 drives of course. I'm not sure if this is true now, but it should be true by the time Vista is finalized.)

Erwin, i saw that in your second image there're some files that seems 'log' files. If the problem persist you can send them to FlashFXP Devs in order to trace the possible problems.

If there are further issues, I'm willing to assist bigstar with debugging. I can run a vista VM for bigstar to play with until he falls into bed.

Furthermore, I disagree that Inicom should not take care of these problems until the final. That's what beta versions are good for, check for compatibility and fix the worst issue so that the application will work right away when Vista comes out. I also expect Microsoft to supply late builds to developers of standard applications like e.g. FlashFXP because it is for their own good that customers upgrade to Vista - they won't do it if reports keep coming in that software does not run.

This should be fixed way BEFORE the final. I offer my help.

Thanks chotaire, We currently have Windows Vista for testing. I'm in the process of building a deticated box for Windows Vista since it runs too slow under Virtual PC.

Works fine for me on the new vista ultimate build 5219 also. This was indeed a problem with the beta os which seems to have been fixed, though no extensive messing around has been done (by myself).
