Default W32/Sobig-F

Our support email address was hit hard by the W32/Sobig-F virus, over 60k emails and counting, it's going to take some time to download them over my dial up connection and weed out the virus's from the valid emails. I miss my highspeed access.

There will be delays until I sort out this mess.

This virus has been a real pain in the rear. I'm still unable to retrieve emails and currently there are over 120k emails and it continues to grow.

I guess your mail service needs webmail so you can easily delete them by just removing topics that don't look right. I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one on dialup to experience the "bug"

there are so many emails that the webmail times out displaying the inbox.

Some email client software has a function call "Remote Access" or something else, you can download all the email header, and decide to delete from the server or receive and delete, no need to download all the email. For example: Foxmail

Yes, Outlook 2003 has this feature. Also raidenftpd has this program on their website but the link is down so I'm upping it to my server temporarily if you are interested. Link is here .

Sounds like bigstar needs a mailserver that scans and delete emails containing viruses/trojans...

Lucky for me that 2 of mine does

We have MailScanner configured on our mail server, It provides virus scanning and spam filtering, however it simply couldnt keep up with the volume of email. Also for some reason alot of emails containing SoBig made it past the virus scanner, perhaps the attachment was corrupted.

Things settled down about a week ago, I neglected to post an update to this thread and email is moving again.
