I've been getting this problem for a while now, have tried both passive and active modes, and with real IP instead of NAT, but still have same problem.

Currently opened my firewall up completely to the address im connecting to, but still no joy. I would be very grateful for any ideas on sorting this out.

Here is the current log for this error:

tell whoever is administrator of that ftp to properly configure it.
if you are connecting from internet, ftp server must not reply to PASV command with lan ip.

Strangley a friend of mine was having the similar problem connecting to the same site, he changed to using active instead of passive and it worked.

Here is the log for what happens if I try with active:

with your config, in order for PORT mode to work, you need to forward some data connection port range..

however, don't you think it's simpler to fix 1 bad server instead of forcing every user to jump thru such holes?

Ive discovered a fix, though I am still confused as to why it's happening...

If I put myself on a real IP in front of my firewall and use active mode it works... very odd as I have opened my firewall to everything during this whole process with no joy. However if I cut the forewall out completely it seems to work.

Anyway, thanks for your help, Ill get the admin to sort out the server, at least in the meantime i can connect!
