Default FlashFXP chokes on a lot of small files.

* FlashFXP v[3].[40], build [1145 ], [x]registered, [ ]unregistered, [ ]pirated
* OS [x] WinXP, [ ] Win2K, [ ] Win98, [ ] WinME, [ ] Other
* Running behind NAT/router [x] Yes & Model [ZOT IA400+], [ ] No, [ ] Not sure
* Running firewall [x] Yes, Name [Outpost], Ver. [ 3.51.759.6511], or [ ] No
* Running Antivirus [x] Yes, Name [NOD32 ] or [ ] No
* Network [ ] xDSL, [x] CABLE, [ ] Dail-Up, [ ] Other

Using FlashFXP for downloading a lot of small files at high speed from a webserver, always been working OK until the latest version/build. Tried both PSV and PORT mode, the same thing occurs. After a short time of downloading FlashFXP freezes and totally hangs the application, needs to be shutdown in the Task Manager. Im on a 24/8 Mbit cable connection. Tried other ftp clients for this task, for example (dare i say the name?) SmartFTP without problems. Dunno if this is a bug, so i ask here instead of filing a bug report Worth mentioning could be that i´ve never ever had any problems with transfering bigger files.

Make sure FlashFXP is a trusted application in Outpost Firewall. Normally trusted applications aren't monitored at all by firewalls but i'm not entirely sure if that's the case with Outpost. Based on past experience usually the firewall is to blame for these type of issues.

Prior to releasing FlashFXP 3.4 we conducted many stress tests. Several of these tests involved transferring 50k files with file sizes ranging from 1kb to 1mb. Tests were done over a gigabit lan to a file server and over the internet using an adsl connection.

During all of our tests there were no lockups or freezes.

(The test machine consisted of XP SP2 + all updates, NOD32 anti-virus, and a hardware firewall was involved for internet tests)

Thanks for answer, and please forgive me for late feedback. As you mentioned, i have FlashFXP as a fully trusted application in Outpost. I´ve tried several servers ranging from ioFTPD to glftpd and the same error occurs on all servers. The transfer starts as per normal, but after a while FlashFXP chokes and hangs with no visible activity. I have to close FlashFXP through Task Manager to even get some kind of response from it. On rare occasions i even have to reboot the computer because the FlashFXP process totally freezes the whole box and makes it impossible to get any kind of reaction from it. Checked the log file, no anomalies there....Very annoying. I dont want to use other ftp clients as i consider most of them being utter crap, but this erronous behavior forces me to use *barf* SmartFTP for these transfers, which btw occurs on amost daily basis (updating websites).

I have no idea what to do

GrandMal, have you tried to temporary competly disable/unload outpost firewall to see if that makes any difference.
also NOD32 has internet monitor module IMON. it is known to cuase issues with some applications(most often p2p related ones), but just in case, try to temporary disable it too and see if problem still exist.

Good idea, i can put flashfxp.exe on the Imon exception list just to see if it helps, also disable Outpost during that transfer. What strikes me though is that ""the other ftp client" dont suffer from these problems.

Ok, i also got FlashFXP 3.4.0 build 1145 installed on 2 computers (running xp pro sp2), both on different network. I have always used FlashFXP but with older versions on the very same computer. And i have the very same firewall and adsl provider at home as i did before, but now when f.ex i download joomla from a website (joomla has a LOT of SMALL files!) i use/own, my computer kind of locks up it uses a lot of recources.. up to a 100% sometimes.. and it is almost impossible to use the computer for other programs at the same time..

Hope there is a solution / answere for this problem..
