Unable to logon with version 4.2.3

Hi Guys,

Some weeks ago I can't connect to an ftp site (
At first I thought that the ftp-site is wrong, but other programs (Total Commander, FileZilla) can connect to it.

I get the following logs:

Re: Unable to logon with version 4.2.3

based on that error message it says that either username or password are wrong.

make sure that ip, port, username and password are accurate.

Re: Unable to logon with version 4.2.3

Does the site password contain any non-standard letters from the alphabet?

Like special accented characters such as à â ä è é ?

Some FTP servers require that passwords are UTF-8 encoded when they contain non-standard ANSI characters, however some FTP servers require the password to be sent in ANSI.

Unfortunately there's no way to know what the server expects, most modern FTP servers use UTF-8, however there are some that don't, and some FTP servers that haven't been updated in ages.

Several builds ago there was a change on how passwords are handled to make FlashFXP compatible with certain servers. In some situations we send the password in ANSI first and if that fails we try UTF-8, otherwise we might try UTF-8 first and then ANSI. This only works of course if the FTP server doesn't immediately drop the connection on password failure, which some FTP servers do.

If we can determine which way the password is being encoded and sent we can then come up with a better solution to handle this FTP server.

Assuming its a problem with the password encoding.

Re: Unable to logon with version 4.2.3

With other programs (Total Commander and FileZilla, transfer mode: Passive) I can connect to this site (the real site address is irrelevant, but If absolutely necessary, I can give you this).

Here is the user name and password for this server:
My password: guest+
User name: guest (neither can be changed!)

Re: Unable to logon with version 4.2.3

I am not entirely sure why FlashFXP is failing to log into the FTP server, with a password such as that it should not be a problem with the character encoding like I first suspected.

If you can send me the IP address in a private message I will attempt to reproduce the problem, otherwise I am quite stumped as to why the FTP server wont allow FlashFXP to login.
