Very High CPU Usage

I have upgrade to version 3.4.1.1187 and OpenSSL 0.9.8.e and I have a big CPU problem.
I resolve the problem only if I downgrade to version 3.4.1.1184 (always with OpenSSL 0.9.8.e)

See this image:

Let me know if you need others informations.

Regards

Miki

Re: Very High CPU Usage

Do you encounter the same high cpu usage when you turn off the speed limit feature?

Re: Very High CPU Usage

You have right ... I forgot that I have enabled it (limit very high 500Kb, but enable)
I have disabled it and the CPU usage now it's normal.

I think you have changed something in last the release (1187 and 1190),
because never see this problem in others releases.

Regards

Miki

Re: Very High CPU Usage

Yes this has changed slightly, Specifically with the TCP/IP buffer changes. Although I was not aware of any side effects from these changes. The original issue was that a few users experienced high CPU during normal file transfers. All these changes were an attempt to resolve this issue. With the latest changes I was informed that the problems have been resolved.

I'm not entirely sure why those changes would of increased the CPU usage when speed limiting is enabled, Logically the CPU usage would of stayed the same.

The difference between CPU usage with speed limiting on/off is almost unnoticable, however it is slightly higher with it. At least on all of my test machines.

You might try adjusting the TCP/IP buffer to see if that improves the cpu usage any.

Re: Very High CPU Usage

My TCP/IP Buffer Size are set to default and there is the high CPU problem.

Set the TCP/IP Buffer Size with different value (low and high), but always the high CPU problem.

Same for me. Tried changing TCP/IP Buffer Sizes and I never use speed limits but always the high CPU problem.

Re: Very High CPU Usage

I just tried w/the public beta v3.4.1 1170 and it's the same as the stable release v3.4.0 1145, very high cpu usage. I tried both versions of openssl, openssl_098d and openssl_098e and I tried ssl vs non-ssl transfers but nothing helps. As soon as the file gets to approx. 50-60% done, the cpu usage drops from 95% to 15% or less until it's complete then shoots right back up to 95% again when the next file starts.

My buffer download trials:
1kb = ~95% cpu - full speed 941.7 KB/s
10kb = ~95% cpu - full speed 920.3 KB/s
16kb = ~5% cpu - 10% speed 96.1 KB/s
32kb = ~5% cpu - 20% speed 199.2 KB/s
64kb = ~35% cpu - 40% speed 372.0 KB/s
96kb = ~50% cpu - 60% speed 586.4 KB/s
128kb = ~70% cpu - 70% speed 681.3 KB/s
256kb = ~95% cpu - full speed 943.2 KB/s
(default) = ~95% cpu - full speed 932.8 KB/s

I hope that helps. If u need screens or any additional info, just ask. I hope this gets fixed soon, it's extremely annoying.

Chris

This thread relates to a much newer beta release and those changes possibly increasing the cpu usage, it cannot be compared to 1145 or 1170. High cpu usage under the older builds is an entirely different issue.

Unfortunately the newer builds are only available to beta testers, and currently there is no public release.

Re: Very High CPU Usage

I'm checking this problem with last RC1 and it seem resolved ... do you have fixed it?

[EDIT] sorry, but again ... last test was a false positive
the problem there is again with the speed limit is enabled

Regards

Miki

Re: Very High CPU Usage

With the 3.6 RC1 release speed limiting is handled much differently, in fact the differences that existed previously no longer exist.

There is one bit of code that still exists, but it was never suspected as being part of the high cpu usage issue. Contact me privately and I'll send you a build with some modified code and lets see if that finally solves the problem.
