Windows 8.1 - Issues transferring small files

Hi!

Running Windows 8.1 64 bit. Using FlashFXP 4.4.2 (build 2016)

Ever since upgrading to Windows 8.1 at the weekend I have had issues using Flash FXP when transferring small files.

The files that fail to transfer are always below 100KB in size. The client transfer just freezes, it usually leaves an incomplete or 0 byte file on the destination server.

This appears to be a common issue with multiple ftp clients on windows 8.1. Here are some links of other reports:

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/For...elopmentissues

http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/for...p?f=18&t=58617

http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...ng-FTP-publish

One provider has released a fix:

http://wysiwygwebbuilder.com/forum/v...hp?f=1&t=58681

"- New feature: Added new FTP engine option (Tools->Options->Publish & Preview). You can now switch between wininet or winsock.
Select winsock if you have issues with publishing in Windows 8.1."

Please could you investigate? If there is a way to send you a log from flashfxp I can send some evidence tested on multiple servers.

Re: Windows 8.1 - Issues transferring small files

Hello,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I am currently investigating the issue.

One thing that you can try is to set the TCP/IP buffer size to (default)

Main menu > Options > Preferences Dialog > Connection

Set the TCP/IP buffer size for send and receive to default

See this faq entry for a screenshot.

Connect to the FTP server and try to upload the files.

Also please upgrade to v4.4.2 build 2018
You can perform a manual update check from within FlashFXP via the main menu > Help > Check for new version.

Re: Windows 8.1 - Issues transferring small files

I've done a bit of testing with the new beta and it appears to have fixed the issues! I'll need to see how it goes for a few days to say for sure, so I will report back.

Thanks for your super fast response, it is much appreciated.

Re: Windows 8.1 - Issues transferring small files

still testing and had a few issues transferring files again, this time however the small files are fine but larger files (~20MB zip files) are transferring, but once they show the whole filesize has transferred, it appears not to know to finish. the progress "yellow bar" shows the speed reducing until it times out. appears to leave a 32 MB file which does not match the filesize of the original file.

Re: Windows 8.1 - Issues transferring small files

for me the problem exists also with the dev-version. on small files fxp makes a ~2 Minute pause:

[L] RETR hourly_usage_200808.png
[L] 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for hourly_usage_200808.png (2151 bytes).
Zu lange Pause während der Übertragung
[L] ABOR
[L] Ãœbertragung fehlgeschlagen: hourly_usage_200808.png
[L] Verbindung verloren: (Dauer: 1 Minute 46 Sekunden)

and so on...

Re: Windows 8.1 - Issues transferring small files

Can you please post a timestamped session log
(right-click on the session window and check the "timestamp" entry before you start the transfers)

Does this problem effect uploading and downloading?

Based on the original bug report and the information I gathered from the provided links I was under the impression that this issue was specific to uploading.

avant the progress bar is relative to the client, just because FlashFXP has sent 100% of a file doesn't mean that the FTP server has received 100% as well. Due to latency and delays in the network there may be a pause at the end of the transfer until the server acknowledges that it has received all of the data. It is normal to see the speed drop during this time. In the dev build the amount of time that FlashFXP waits for the server to respond was increased, its possible that maybe we need to wait even longer.

adino I am not 100% sure if your problem is related, perhaps you should open a new ticket and explain your specific problem in as much detail as possible, complete session logs with timestamps are best.

Re: Windows 8.1 - Issues transferring small files

Hi!

thanks for your responce. I've found the issue to be less consistant now. Sometimes I connect to a site and it times out getting the directory listing, sometimes it's fine. I will observe and get that logging detail for you over the next days.

thank you!

Re: Windows 8.1 - Issues transferring small files

avant

I found some issues with the new code I added in build 2019 and spent the weekend trying to get it right.

I released a new build that you can download from the website
https://oss.azurewebsites.net/download

Can you please upgrade to this newer build and let me know if the new build is better, worse, or the same.

thank you bigstar! I'm downloading FlashFXP44_2020_Setup.exe now and will test over the next days. I use FlashFXP every day, so I should soon spot any issues.

thank you!

Re: Windows 8.1 - Issues transferring small files

Hi!

2020 is not working for moving small files, same issue as originally, very luckily I still had 2019

the issue seems to be exclusive to uploading for me. I'm uploading files to my nas.

Cheers!

Re: Windows 8.1 - Issues transferring small files

I am sorry that it is taking so long to get this issue resolved, I have been having lots of difficulty reproducing these issues.

However today must be my lucky day, as I'm experiencing connectivity issues with a rather high amount of TCP retransmissions, typically this is not something I'd rejoice about but today is another story.

At the moment I am able to consistently reproduce the problems that you have reported and I made several changes until all of the problems disappeared. I then tested build 2022 and 2021 side by side with the new build working flawlessly and the previous build choking quite badly.

I am quite confident that with these changes most (if not all) of your problems should be resolved.
