Unicode will be replaced with garbage

Hello!

1. When I click "Edit" to edit a file (for example a .html or .xlf file), then save it and allow FlashFXP to upload it, my Unicode characters are replaced by garbage characters.

2. When I click upload a file (for example a .xlf languages file) , my Unicode characters are replaced by garbage characters.

I'm use the last version of flashFXP (5.1.0 build 3839 - 05/16/2015 ) on a windows 8.1 x64 system.
Yes i'm using the internal editor.

I don't suppose you recall if the file was loaded as ANSI or UTF-8?

If you can reproduce the issue on a non-critical file it would be most helpful.

You can also try this update to see if it handles UTF-8 encoding better than before.

There is a limitation where if the file contains UTF-8 mixed with non-UTF8 (locale code page) characters the file will be treated as ANSI.

This version is much better. The unicode characters are even replaced here but not by garbage characters.

It's possible that "Ü, Ö" and Co. are not be replaced by using the internal editor?

"ü, &ouml" works perfectly.


I need this Character for the german languages of my webpage.

Also please verify if the file is being loaded as UTF-8 or ANSI, this is shown on the status-bar at the bottom of the editor window.

The internal editor does open my file in UTF-8. Can I make settings, that he will open it in ANSI?
When I open a file in another editor, the Unicode characters are all correct.

If the file contains UTF-8 encoded characters or plain text then its treated as UTF-8.

If the file is found to contain extended characters that are not valid UTF-8 then its loaded as ANSI.

It has to be done this way, otherwise we experience the problems you first discovered.

If you load a file that is detected as UTF-8 but want to save it as ANSI you can do this under File > Save As, then on the Save As dialog change the Encoding to ANSI/ASCII

In most cases you'll want to save as UTF-8 (if the file is detected as such)

Alternatively you can use an external editor with FlashFXP such as notepad++
