FXP Speed not accurate

When I try to FXP things between my servers, FlashFXP shows the speed as like 26k/s when it is really 1MB+/s. It would be really nice to see the actual speed it is sending at. Is this a FlashFXP problem or maybe a FTP server problem?

Thanks.

Re: FXP Speed not accurate

it is impossible to see the actual transfer speed during fxp since servers do not communicate the progress information.
it's just you start the transfer and wait until it's done.
FlashFXP ESTIMATE transfer speed based on results of the previous transfers. if previous file transfers was too short to give you accurate numbers, estimation will be off.

Re: FXP Speed not accurate

Thats pretty much what I thought. That the client cannot see the actual speed. What is the point in showing estimation if it is so far off?

Re: FXP Speed not accurate

It depends a lot on the situation, if you have two sites with a constant speed the estimation will almost always be right on.

Re: FXP Speed not accurate

There are many factors you need to be aware of when seing an estimated speed as 'off'. Firstly the way flashfxp estimates this speed is important to understand, as you may guess it pretty much just watches all the previous transfers in the queue, and averages the speed seen over several transfers.

If you have a mixed queue of small files and larger files the estimation can easily be off, because no matter how fast the big files transfers, the small files (eg text files) will still report as being sent at much lower speeds due only to the fact that they are too small for flashfxp to really know the speed of the transfer. (the overhead pre/post operations can take longer than the actual data transfer for example) This wil cause the overall estimation to be off until enough other files of larger size have been sent for it to average out better.

However on the other hand, if your queue consists of all significant sized files (big enough for the pre/post operations not to significantly effect the estimation of any particular file and for the severs to actually speed up to a decent rate) then the estimation can be spot on as soon as the first file has completed.
