problem with partitions
 i have 2 HD with 5 partitions. C: , D:, E:, F: and O: well when i try to open drive O: ffxp need about 30 seconds to show the Hd content.
i'm using XP with themes. any idea ? thx |
Is it just that drive that is this "slow"? What file-systems are in use? None of these are substituted drives, right?
|
No substs
HD 1: Partition C: and D: HD 2: Partition E: F: and O: all partitions using FAT32:eek: |
..... both HD are Seagate Barracuda IV ATA 100, AMD XP1600+, 512 MB DDR, MOBO Asus A7A266
:D |
If it's just the one, try to allocate a new drive-letter.
|
only time i ever have a slow listing time is when i have a CD in my cd drive
maybe try that too ;) |
do you have many files in root of O:?
try disabling antivirus, see if that makes any difference. |
O: Drive only have 13 folders in root directory and 1 file
if change to other letter, same problem. |
antivirus disabled .. and same problem
|
2 Attachment(s)
selection drive combobox remain active over all Windows programs (look attach file). i can use all programs fine except FlashFXP
|
i have noticed that when you start to browse or use a dropdown to browse from local drives, windows automatically seeks teh rives listed for media and media label
so it would be teh zip drive that you have slowing it down try disconnecting it or taking teh media out see if that helps |
pepe, you really should have mentioned that the I: drive was no ordinary drive, but a removeable media. They are generally alot slower, atleat on the first pass untill the info gets cached. That way, the drive that comes after the slow drive, seems just as slow or worse.
|
when access the I Drive (Zip) Ffxp show the contents immediately. Another tip, EVERY time access to O: drive, Ffaxp need 30 seconds, not only the first time.
|
Actually, no, it's only fast because it's already cached. Try removing the zip and see how fast it is with no media, then insert a new media (ie. uncached). I have the exact same behavior with a OnStream-drive, but avoid the problem by making sure the slow drives get in last.
|
no luck :-(
changed HD to Letter G: and Zip to letter Z: tryed with and without any disk in zip drive .... thx |
