Special settings for GoDaddy?

Hello!

I have a hosting account at GoDaddy. I have no problem downloading files rapidly (I have 40mbps down and 5mbps up) but it takes forever to upload many small files rapidly and without FlashFXP timing out or just getting "stuck" on a file. This is in reference to using FlashFXP to download off the server and upload to the server.

I'm no expert in this stuff but it looks like FlashFXP is opening a port EACH time a file is uploaded. Is this normal? Sometimes I'm uploading thousands of little 4k and 3k files for example and I think this is what is taking so long and causing the problems.

Here is an example of what it looks like for just one file (I edited the IP)...
[R] MLST UserDB.php
[R] 550 Can't check for file existence
[R] PASV
[R] 227 Entering Passive Mode (208,109,xxx,xxx,197,42)
[R] Opening data connection IP: 208.109.xxx.xxx PORT: 50474
[R] STOR UserDB.php
[R] 150 Accepted data connection
[R] 226-File successfully transferred
[R] 226 0.144 seconds (measured here), 19.08 Kbytes per second
[R] SITE UTIME UserDB.php 20120108155143 20120108155143 20120108155143 UTC
[R] 250 UTIME OK
Transferred: UserDB.php 2 KB in 0.15 second (2.7 KB/s)

Can somebody please tell me if this looks normal? I have a ton of files I need to upload (moving servers) and it will take me hours and hours if I have to babysit it and keep restarting it when it gets "stuck" and hangs on these small files. Plus, just the amount of time it takes will kill me. LOL

Thank you!

Yes, that is how FTP protocol works. For each file transfer a separate connection needs to be established.
Perhaps it'll be much faster if you compress all your files into a single zip or tar file, transfer it and then unpack it on the destination server.

I gotcha. Thank you much for the reply. That's a good idea and I'll give it a shot. Thank you!
