Passive Mode

Hello,

I have a HostGator shared account and have had it for ages but suddenly today I have tried to connect to my FTP and I get a "Refused Connection" message and so I went on to their live support and I have been advised to enable a "Passive Mode" feature or something so could someone tell me if and how I can do that please?

Site Manager > Options Tab > Use Passive Mode
