sorry i didn´t understand you, i got the same problem, and i also delete the .ioftpd files and i am using 5.8.5r too. so how how do you resolve the problem? i also check the GroupIdTable/UserIdTable for empty spaces.
i allready search for this here, and i install the daemon complete new without any scripts or modifications, but now i become desperate :-( i realy love io, so please give me a hint

you want one?
its a randon problem, not everytime, not at a special folder, sometimes you can open a dir, sometime io crash, it realy suxx
and with the crashlog, no one tells me what it says, and where the problem is, i hoped that after io getting open source the development goes on, but i guess the comunity here is just to small to keep io at life, i realy like to help if some dev´s tell me what can i do, but at the moment i feel like standing in dark room and noone will help me to find the light switch :-(

In ..\ioFTPD\etc\UserIdTable make a empty line under the last added user in list .. do the same with GroupIdTable .. restart ioFTPD and all fixed
Inn other word .. go to bottom of the file .. Hit "Enter" and press save!
