Default Direct FTP - without using local pipe

Hi,

Living ut in the bush in Oz means really slow link speeds (like 14k) when doing stuff on my web site I can often get ftp access to what I want but then have to dowload/upload.

Although the direct transfer allows it to miss going to my HD it still has to travel up and down my link <ug>

Now the feature I would really really like is this

FlashFXP logs on to my ssh and runs a ftp session there for me, I then direct that I want to connect to the site I am going to get stuff from .. then I go at it.

I know I can do this myself (and I do) but it would be nice if I could use my fav ftp client to do the dirty work and use the builtin neat features.

Ta .. Larry

Actually, Larry... a Site To Site Transfer (FXP) is exactly that; the data not only misses your harddrive but doesn't even come into contact with your modem.

Example: FlashFXP tells Server A it wants to Upload FILE, then FlashFXP tells Server B it wants to Download FILE and tells Server B to send it to Server A (instead of to yourself). Since Server A is expecting to receive a file, Server B is successful in sending it and both servers continue happily without any further help from your computer.

Hope that helps.

check to make sure its not something else, all the modem will do in an fxp is lightly blink from time to time, just sending a few small packets

i'm not saying this is what happened here, but i remember of 2 cases where NAT router was messing up with fxp making data go thru the local connection..
