Default FlashFXP Support Question?????

Hope Someone can Help......

You find a site which has a user limit imposed...you spend a number of hours trying to connect to it.....eventually you succeed....there are 49x15 Meg files......you queue all the required files....and press GO to start downloading.....

With BulletFTP once the files have been queued unless the server goes down all the files are then transfered......

With FlashFXP after the first 15 Meg file is transfered a message comes up "connection lost" "trying to reconnect"......more often than not a "too many users message" comes up....this problem isn't too bad when there is no user limit, as FlashFXP reconnects again to the server, but when you have been trying to connect to a server for a few hours only for the connection to be lost after the first file , it's rather fustrating.....

I use FlashFXP a lot when other FTP clients don't see the full directory listings.....If possible I would like to get to the bottom of this problem...

Default RE: Support Question

I have never heard of this problem related to FlashFXP...

Have you checked with the site admin/owner ? To check if the server allows more than one download, ie. has limits imposed ?

I have heard of that, but this problem seams more related to the site or deamon, rather than FlashFXP. What deamon is it ? are there limits imposed ?

FYI, FlashFXP works like bulletproof, with any files queued the software will download all the files in one connection, unless server / isp errors occur.

Shark.

I've tried BulletFTP & FlashFXP on the same sites and even when there isn't a user limit applied i.e I can log in immediatelly then FlashFXP always disconnects after a download be it a few KB's or Meg's then reconnects again "skipping" the file it has just downloaded and moving onto the next one!!!!!

Grzyb,
What, if anything, shows up in the status log-window? Any errors at all?

Below is a transcript of the status window when the disconnection occurs.....All files have been queued for download....

As you can see FlashFXP disconnects from the server at end of download and then reconnects again....

I/P has been masked to protect the server...

MS FTP... Why am I not surprised that thing bugs the bejesus out of the client, and I imagine, most any client.

Have you tried with another server and gotten the same behaviour? This could be any number of things, including a result of the server not coping well with the.. shall we say.. creative usage of directories.

Grzyb, please enable timestamping in your status windows, it helps in troubleshooting

not nessarly directory name, but rather i take it it's a pub...and server might be lagged to hell so FlashFXP times out waiting for data.

on semirelated note ms says they will fix problem with device name dirs in an upcoming hotfix

(preferences / proxy tab)
Are you using a proxy?
Have you tried using passive mode?
Do you have send noop during transfer enabled?

I thought I might note that none of the files that failed to transfer are being downloaded completely. It would appear you have FlashFXP set to Skip files that are incomplete, rather than to Resume them.

This indicates that the transfer is timing out, likely due to lag as Mxx suggested.

What does "timing out" mean, you ask?
Well, lets just say it means the client ran out of patients and isn't going to wait any longer for the server to respond.

*** FIX ***

Give FlashFXP a cigarette to ease it's nerves and increase it's patients for slow insecure pubs. ..Or...
Goto: Options > Preferences (F6) > General Tab > Connect Timeout (sec): and increase thie value.

I could be wrong however. I vaguely remember testing these timers with Charles and it's possible the transfer-timeout timer is hard coded to 120 seconds.

It's not a transfer time because if it were you should see the following message in the status window 'Transfer Timed Out', As Raccoon pointed out that is the connection timeout, The transfer time is seperate, This value is located on the Transfer tab.

More than likely the connection between you and these sites are unstable which results in a lost connection. Or the ftp servers could be overloaded and it's causing connections to drop.
