Probably the server is dead, check FTP info.

the ip number is my friends, it connects to his ftp. when i use AOL's little built-in ftp to connect to the IP number it works fine but AOL does not have resume capabilities. I made sure he is online also.
Thanks for your time.

If you are entering an IP address, you should never get the error "unable to resolve host." as far as I know. This error suggests that you entered a hostname address that your DNS server (whichever one that Windows made FlashFXP use) could not resolve.

Check the number and dial again. Make sure you're entering an IP address (to rule out DNS issues) by resolving the address yourself or ask your friend for his IP. Also make sure you're not using some funky AOL protocol address that only works in AOL Space.

FYI, any version of AOL below 8.0 has a restricted TCP/IP stack, and causes issues when using programs other than its own...I recommend either upgrading to aol 8.0 or have your friend try setting his server up on a different port.

set up the right way. I do have AOL 8.0. i've tried with and without passive
also. it does the same thing for every almost site and person.

Flashfxp 2.0 906 -- Windows 98 -- no network, no firewall, none of that --
I am having trouble with my friend's IP and just about any site that is not AOL
related. It doesn't seem like it even tries to connect because as soon as I click
connect it says connecting to so-and-so and exactly right after that it says
unable to resolve host. I have made sure he is online at the time also.
Thanks for any help

try to connect using IP address instead of hostname.
also instead of FlashFXP try to use windows command line ftp command or even IE..just to make sure that it's problem outside of flashfxp itself
