Problem with Data Connection
I am trying the FlashFXP Trial and I am having a problem connecting to some ftps. Some work and some don't.
For example, when I connect to certain ftps, I am able to connect, but I get the following error:
[05:43:55] 426 Data connection closed, transfer aborted.
I am attached and I can make a folder, but I am unable to see any folders on the remote system.
I have tried passive mode, I have taken passive mode off, I have forwarded the port of the remote ftp on my router, I have toggled on and off the "show hidden files."
If anyone can tell me why I am able to connect to some ftps, but not others and what is causing my problem, I would appreciate it greatly.
Thank you.

Thanks for your reply.
Version: 1.4.2 (Build 830)
OS: Windows XP Professional OEM
I am trying the trial version so I do not have an ID.
I use a firewall (Zone Alarm) and my computer is behind a router (Linksys). I have forwarded the ports to the source and destination computers on my linksys config menu.
Here is the log of my attempted session:
[09:32:23] WinSock 2.0
[09:39:50] Connecting to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
[09:39:50] Connected to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Port 21
[09:39:50] 220 Serv-U FTP-Server v2.5k for WinSock ready...
[09:39:50] USER xxxxxxxxxx
[09:39:50] 331 User name okay, need password.
[09:39:50] PASS (hidden)
[09:39:52] 230 User logged in, proceed.
[09:39:52] SYST
[09:39:53] 215 UNIX Type: L8
[09:39:53] PWD
[09:39:53] 257 "/e:/ftproot" is current directory.
[09:39:53] TYPE A
[09:39:53] 200 Type set to A.
[09:39:53] PORT 0,0,0,21,10,62
[09:39:54] 200 PORT Command successful.
[09:39:54] LIST
[09:39:54] 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.
[09:40:16] 426 Data connection closed, transfer aborted.
I am actually in the ftp. I can create a folder, but I cannot see any folders and I cannot see any files. I also cannot see the folder once I create it.
If you have any idea of what I am doing wrong, please let me know. Thank you.

In the Preferences / Proxy tab. Did you enter anything into the "Bind to external ip" field, if so what? and is it valid?
If you enter the wrong information here you will be unable to get a file listing. If you're unsure about what to enter here, leave it blank.

Hi, it was checked and port 21 was listed. I cleared the text box and de-selected the check and it did not solve my problem.

By the way...I do not know if it means anything, but all of the ftps I am having trouble connecting to are also behind routers.

build 830 is very old.
either upgrade to last final release of 835 or upgrade to newest beta of v2.0
both available from www.flashfxp.com

I suspect something isn't configured correctly, I don't know if it's your router, zonealarm or FlashFXP. The only way for us to determine the problem would be to tell us exactly how you have everything configured.

I do not think it is the Zone Alarm. I closed it and tried to connect and I was not able to. I also do not think it is the router. This morning, I disconnected the Ethernet cable (from modem) and connected it directly into the NIC.
I am connected to a cable modem. I route the internet connection between two computers. I am using Win XP on one, Win98 on the other.
I have fowarded the ports in the advanced section of the router's config menu.
I am lost. I do not know what is wrong. If you are not able to figure out what is going on, do not worry about it. Life goes on. lol

Now that you've unchecked "Bind to External IP" Flashfxp still says the following line in the log window? (the last 2 numbers don't matter now)
PORT 0,0,0,21,10,62
Actually, please post your current log again.

I have the very same problem!
I used an trial 2.0 RC before and everything worked fine. Now I registered and updated to 2.0 build 901
I am using WinXP SP1
Logging in works fine, but as soon as I request the directory list, it gets an connection timeout. even rc2 doesnt work anymore. other ftp clients have no problems.
I am connected directly to the internet and have my own ip address.
I now have a key and cant use the program
[EDIT] using active transfer for ftps in my subnet works but i need passive for all other ftps

PJO3434,
From my experience, FTP server configurations become difficult (well not difficult, but people do not do it correctly) when both the client and server are behind NAT routers. The client nor server know what their external IP is unless you specifically tell it.
For arrangements of this (like you are), I have had the greatest success when the server is set to use PASV mode. The server will tell the client what IP and port to connect to, rather with PORT, the client tells the server what IP and port to connect to. With PASV, the server must be manually configured to send the client the correct IP and port to connect to.
So, when you (client) are be a router, you do not know your external IP (only internal) automatically. You must somehow tell the server what IP and port to use/connect to. Maybe this is what "Limit local port range to:" and "Bind sockets to this address:" will do, I don't know. maybe bigstar can clear things up. I would like to know out of curiosity myself.
To sum things up, the easiest (as in least connection problem) setup of this manner (both client and server behind router) is having the server in PASV mode and the server's IP is correctly/manually set. This configuration will be such that only the server be manually configured, rather than more than one (most likely) or all clients having to manually configure setups on their end.
I hope this helps. Being a personal FTP admin myself, figuring out this was frustrating for me, especially since a lot of people are using routers, and ever since, I haven't been having any problems (with DIR listings).
