Default Dedicated server speeds

I have been using flash for some time now and dealing with dedicated servers for a little over a year. I am using Gene6 FTP with a basic setup and no encryption. When I try to download from this server I can barely hit 30kb/s on a 100mb line. This server is in Germany. Do any of you have some suggestions so I dont have to switch over to smartftp and make 20 threads to get it to go faster?

are you experiencing similar slow speed using a single thread in smartftp too?
run http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks and make sure that your system is optimally configured for your connection speed.

sounds like either that server is throttling connection or routing between you and it are not optimal..
