http-service and SSL

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and ioFTPD. I have downloaded the trialversion 5-8-4u and successfully hosted a simple FTP-server with the default settings. The problem is I am not that interested in the FTP-service and would like to enable the HTTP-service. I have been given a task/job from a company to host a server which uses encrypted file transfers and is accessible via an internet browser like internet explorer and such using https. If a user has the correct password i want him to be able to securily download these documents from my computer at home.

First of all I would like to know if it is possible to do this, because I would not like to buy the registered version only to find out it was not possible. I read that you have to have a registered version if SSL is to be enabled.
Do you guys know of a newbie installation/setup guide or other documentation that is useful?

it's possible, but not easy.
I never saw any report of that being done by anyone.
One would have to code php scripts to allow login on the https service, and give a list of files available for download. I think the sample files in http2 have something somewhat similar. Just change ioFTPD.ini tomake your http service use text\http2 instead of text\http

I would say, however, that what you are looking for is not ioftpd. At least not now - I know darkone has big plans, but for now io is mainly ftp server.

I believe you would be better off with Apache. I might have misunderstood what do you need, though.

What you want is EASY and NOT at the same time.

I setup such a system for a local business.

- install apache (never mind the MS crap)
- setup apache for a common NAME\PASS (same pop up idea as a password for the OS)
- set your web page up under apache
- here you can add in what you want to the web page and link to the HTTPD program
- in this case RAIDEN HTTP (used for now)
- there you can do as you want...

Like I said - easy and not easy as I had to setup according to the clients wishes which was a global MAIN ACCESS of NAME\PASS for all working there (easy as 1,2,3) create the web page which is either easy or a pain in the ass depending on what it contains, the link to the HTTPD (each with their own password access to their areas and other areas hidden \ FORUM for all to talk in \ NEWS of what is going on \ and so on...

It does the job...not as clean as I would like - but no complaints and all private files are exactly that...
