Nope, this isn't bad news :)
I'm about to sign developement contract with inicom. This deal will ensure, that active developement (by me) will continue for atleast a year, most likely - much longer.
My benefits from deal are solid income, latest and greatest developement tools, possibly other non-ioftpd related projects, CV-entry. Also, contract leaves ownership of code written prior the contract, to me. If contract is terminated by inicom, ownership of code written after the contract, shifts to me.
Focus of developement, and pricing for individual use will remain the same. Scalability/stability/performance > features.
Formal announcement will follow...
we all know you deserve this break d1, and i wont be the only one to wish you every success with the deal.
Great news dude! :-)
You deserve to start getting pay for all the effort you put in io!
Wish you the best of luck at your new work!

Who's Inicom ?
I google-found an ISP in Florida, a host provider, and an open source solutions company in .dk......
Do u know yet if they intent to put any more resources (than what u mention) into this project ? Marketing / commercialisation resources for example ?
Is it same company as FlashFXP ?
Hope you suck all hw/software needed to make ioFTPD even better.
* oh, still waiting for your zipscript btw :p

To quickly address a couple of the posts. IniCom is looking to put as much as D1 and the community needs, towards ioFTPd including development tools (which we've already puprchased for D1's use), servers, marketting, and every other resource we have. If there are things needed, please let us know and we'll do what we can to get resources. There are a lot of things we look forward to putting into io, all of which will be announced soon.
We are the same company that just signed on FlashFXP (another great piece of software). We're not the company in Florida or the .dk company (although the .dk company has a really nice webpage). We've actually know D1 for a while now and CED over at FlashFXP for about 7 years. We'd just like to see all these things come together for everyone.
What we could use is a little community feedback and support. We're hoping to have a rock solid version of ioFTPd with all the features complete here in the near future. We need all the comments and suggestions you have to make it a better app. We're also looking for people to work on ioFTPd and other projects in the form of graphics and software developers so let us know if you're a photoshop / VC++ / Delphi wiz. As D1 said, there are other projects that we have that we could use some help on.
Look for the full announcement here shortly. ..

best smiley ever!
dunno who made it... appeared on internet some years ago, along with the 'peanut-butter-jelly-time' song ;)
Man I'm starting to feel dizzy. Can't describe how happy my face looks like reading all this :-)
Not only happy for d1, for whom things really turned out great. but imagine what this will do for ioFTPD :-) Phew..
Best of luck to all of you!

Exactly what are you looking for as many end users of IO and
FLASH have different uses for both products.
Maybe you should take the first step and put out questions that
you would like feedback on.

Time will tell...
I hope it works out for you and the ongoing development of IO.
You sound very positive on this and perks above what you do
now --> are a bonus...

i think this sounds good. i don't know anything about inicom, so I don't know what their plans are. I just don't wanna see IO's developement take an offshoot in the wrong direction, or turn it into a bloaded FTPd.
congrats to D1 though for this contract if it's what he wants :)
no matter what though, i'm glad d1 is gonna get a solid income, and hopefully with some marketing the word gets out on IO :)

Hmm, that part makes me scared.. When you say graphics you don't mean GUI do you? That's what a love about io - no ugly gui (and even if its beutiful no tnx).

This isn't for ioFTPd. No major plans to change how ioFTPd works in the future. We've been looking for a graphics developer for a while for other application work as well as web page work. We haven't had much luck finding someone to do original content graphics development.

I could try to take a chance. I have made somewhat known ioFTPD wallpaper (http://www.ioftpd.com/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2659), some icons by D1's request for a project of his, my avatar u see here at the left etc...
If you're interested, let me know :)
