i know what it means.

i just want that a user becomes a msg in his ftp client why he cant connect

in this case if the hostname is incorect i just get msg in ftp client

would be a security risk...

if someone tries to connect to ftp and can't, he must ask admin for help.

if a malicious user tries to connect, and can't, and a msg told him what doesn't match, ident for example, he could just change his ident and he could get in... not that good.

would be cool if it just said ip/host don't match instead of real identd and ip or something

yeah I agree, login incorrect makes user belive that he's entered te wrong passwd or username.
at least it would be nice with a non-default option to let the user know why the login failed..
