My computer has been running quite a bit slower than normal. I just looked at the Task Manager and made a screen shot. I'm uploading to my private server.

* FlashFXP v[3].[0], build [1039], [X]registered, [ ]unregistered, [ ]pirated
* OS [X] WinXP, [ ] Win2K, [ ] Win98, [ ] WinME, [ ] Other
* Running behind NAT/router [X] Yes & Model [LinkSys BEFSR41], [ ] No, [ ] Not sure
* Running firewall [X] Yes, Name [Sygate Personal], Ver. [5.5 ], or [ ] No
* Running Antivirus [X] Yes, Name [Avast!] or [ ] No

Is it possible that the file you're uploading is very badly fragmented? Normally FlashFXP wont use that much cpu usage during an upload unless it's a really highspeed upload (100mbit)

If you are doing a lan transfer you could enable the speed limit to reduce the cpu usage.

I've got a cable connection and it's being uploaded (14.3MB ea. ) from one of the other machines on my LAN. I'm using Flash from another machine tho.

The up speed is ~50KB/s...

OK..I just opened Task Manager again, changed its priority to "Below Normal" and now the #'s dropped to high 30's....which is totally acceptable..

The speed is still there when it's minimized...I'll keep an eye and see if the priority change has messed anything up ..... ;)

BTW...the other machine's HD MaY be pretty fragmented...I'll get on that too.

Bah...still using mega resources...up to 90% of CPU time....seems like it uses this only when uploading not downloading.

I had this limitation too.

When transferring between two computers over cross-cable (directly connected) and both computer has fast harddrive, flashFXP is the bottle neck.

I can get almost 9-10 MB/second with both computer running at 100%, when using a slower CPU it drops to 5-6 MB/second with 7200 rpm harddrive.

What's the reason for this and can it be fixed ?

I don't know. What specific cpu speeds?

On my system a P4 2.8ghz 1gb ram the cpu usage is around 30% for a upload (10,474.2 KB/s) and around 50% for download (9,578.5 KB/s) via my 100mbit lan.

If you enable transfer speed limiting the cpu usage drops a huge amount. when speed limiting is enabled a different approach is taken which uses less cpu at the expense of speed. normal transfers try to achieve the fastest possible transfer regardless of cpu usage.

These results were without first defragmenting the hard drive, both systems could use a defragment.
