View Full Version : FlashFXP v4.0 Translation Details

bigstar

The up coming v4.0 release of FlashFXP will do translations slightly different then the way previous translations were done.

The main reason for changing this was that the old method contained many duplicate text entries because the same text was used in multiple locations. The new way displays all text in a single list, not grouped by dialog. This is ideal because I want to be able to have online translating via the website.

Unfortunately v3.x translations are not compatible with v4.x, but I will be manually converting all translations on the website to the new format.

Most but not all previously translated text will be preserved after conversion.

Some options were renamed to improve the clarity of what they do, there is a lot of new text for all of the new features that have been added.

Now I'm on holidays, so I'll write again on september

I've actually decided to change my mind on this slightly, 4.0 will have a translation editor built in, you'll be able to do your own translations, part of the process will submit your updates automatically to our server, we'll have users assigned to each language to verify the translations before sending them out to everyone. Also downloading updated translations will now be part of the liveupdate system, It'll be an automated process so the user is always up to date.

I may b wrong but a little bird tells me 4.0 beta will make a début sooner rather than later, I wont speculate on the details but I'm pretty sure it will happens this side of Xmas since e.g. anytime soon, the 4.0 final release will eventually have to come to a feature freeze and bug squishing so that a proper stable 4.0 can be released and work on 4.1 (or whatever the next version will be) can begin.

hmm I might sound daft. But how does it show I'm reg'ed user?
I mean I use a name in here in the forum, but it is not attached to my license to Flashfxp. If that is the case how do I do that?
Or am I missing the point?

Customers who own a FlashFXP license have a special title that is shown next to their name. You should be using the same account on the forums to which your license key is paired with.

Use the contact us (https://secure.flashfxp.com/portal/contact.php) form and provide your license key, we'll look up your account and help you reset the password or update the email address if necessary.

Oh I see more people are already on german and dutch. Anyway if there is nobody yet for that I can do both...
But how do you handle longer strings in menus and buttons and so on? Do you autocalculate the width of buttons, menus etc?? And how about the shortcuts in the menus, and buttons (via alt key I mean)? any problems there you foresee is is this already taken care of? If not then I suggets all translators to not use double shortcuts (via alt keys) that exist anywhere else...

Yes the button width is auto calculated, shortcuts can be defined in the translation, on some menus if a shortcut isn't defined a shortcut will be auto defined based on the available keys. Typically if a english string contains & such as &Site Manager the translation can contain a & within the string to define the key.

When you saved the file did you change the internal name to "Portuguese-European", not just the filename, when you save the language it also sends a copy of the changes to our translation server for easy management, I was unable to find a new submission from you.

It appears that there is a mistake in the way language names are formatted when the name contains a - the following character isn't properly capitalized. This will be addressed in future builds.

bigstar

This is located in the Preferences dialog under the View and Edit file section and in the File Association dialog when editing a file association.

Its a mode for how files are handled during a remote edit operation.

Legacy Prompt is basically the v3.x style prompting, its obsolete but some people prefer it.

I hope this additional information aids with your translation.

Here (https://oss.azurewebsites.net/) it says:
Available in 19 languages: Bulgarian, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish.

What about Portuguese-European?
There are a few more languages!!!
In flashFXP, when you click to update/download language, there's a option to choose (only)Portuguese.
I think it's not necessary because it's not ready translated.

Just an opinion!!!

I have been adding to this list as languages are validated and verified, somehow I missed Portuguese-European, I have now added it.

Some languages are incomplete, the idea behind offering incomplete translations is so that others can contribute to them. Idealy it would be better if the language indicated the percentage completed but that is still on our to-do list.

In addition to the 20 completed languages, there are 9 more that are only partially translated.

I prefer use the FlashFXP USB Portable Edition (https://oss.azurewebsites.net/download-usb)
When i run it and i check for new version and there's not update i get this image.

Is it possible to translate it?:idea:

This text comes directly from our web server and is currently not translatable.

Correct. At the moment our translation backend service is way behind schedule, We have alot planned, its just a matter of time before we can get it all implemented.

bigstar, please add an additional string "View":
When opening context menu of file meaning is different in German as when viewing directory view window (View in menu).

On the internal text editor menu it should be using &View and not "View", I will correct this.
"&View" is used with this specific meaning, while "View" is used when viewing files.

I hope this resolves the problem.

bigstar

In the translation editor change the display to show only untranslated strings, if you're using the latest v4.1 beta there should be at least 2 new strings.

oh i understand now, sorry.

Its on the main menu under Tools > Compare Folder Content > Case-Sensitive

When checked the comparison on the filename will be performed case-sensitive
