some servers operate on load balancing which may mean that your upload speed wont max out, that said its is a little vague to just claim that ffxp is slower than all others ftp clients when no logs are provided, settings used, screenshots and provide proper information about exact program versions and if any other activity on your particular WAN connection was at use, even without firewall various programs still access the internet. alos not having a firewall is silly any intrusion into your OS alone is enough to cripple not only ffxp but your entire OS.

Also many improvements have been made since 4.0 to 4.1 stable and current maintenance releases posts stable 4.1 release contain bug fixes.

FlashFXP is constantly fixing issues at a rate of 10 to 1 against competition.

After the Stable release of FlashFXP 4.1.0 Build 1648 stable only September 26th 2011 another 5 maintenance and bug fix releases have been out the door now at 4.1.3 build 1658 with more on the pipelines.
