what version of ioninja is in use when lockup bug occour? And check the process list to see if a file called zip or unzip is running.... They seem to be unstable an when called and locking up they seem to freeze ioftpd.
When you get a lockup please check the list and report your findings. If you see it in the list then terminate it and try to login to ioFTPD.
Although using OPENSSL is still a VERY good idea.....
