In the Preferences, Make sure "Force Active mode to use this IP" is checked and if your IP is static enter your internet IP. Otherwise use http://iplookup.inicom.net

If you have FlashFXP properly configured UPnP is not required.

Another possiblity is using "send noops during transfer" is causing problems and should be disabled.
